Students in a hostel were lining up for lunch. The hostel warden put a signboard near the apple basket which read: “Please take only one apple God is watching you.” A naughty boy put another signboard: “Take all the cookies from the table, God is watching the apples.”
God watches over us all the time. For those of us who have deep faith, they can sense God watching over them all the time and feel His presence through the thick and thin of life. Jesus would never have slept peacefully in a boat that was being tossed by the waves had He not committed Himself to the care of God.
The Bible tells us that Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” (Mark4:38). Jesus questioned their little Faith for they did not believe that Gods watchful eyes were over them.
A beautiful picture of a little child in a boat rocked by waves on the sea has a caption: I can sleep in a storm because my God is awake. It is easy to sleep well when you know that God is watching over you. The Psalmist speaking of Gods love for his people says Our God never slumbers or sleeps (Psalm 121:4).
God makes His presence felt in different ways. We need to tune our hearts and minds to feel His presence.
God can speak to us in our joys and in our sorrows. When Prophet Elijah found it difficult to feel the presence of God The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by;” then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:11-12)
Spiritual writer C S Lewis says, “For no matter how much we have, materially or economically, no matter how gifted spiritually, physically or intellectually, no matter how many other children, God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains; it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
An eccentric professor thinking to have some fun with a little boy who was reading a prayer, said to him Tell me, my good boy, where God is and I will give you a chocolate. The boy, with his simple but strong faith stunned the professor with his answer saying Sir, you tell me where God is not and I will give you a box full of chocolates.
Trust in God always, for He says I will never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)
